Professor McAvoy?

James McAvoy (Wanted) has been cast as young Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class. So what does this mean for Patrick Stewart? Very little is know about the movie. Is it a reboot or just an origins story? There was once talk of a Magneto origins… but now it seems as if they will be combining the two, which could be the reason for casting McAvoy (who is only 31).

Edited image of James McAvoy as Professor X who has been cast in the X-MEN: First Class film

The film is being directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) and produced by former X-Men director Bryan Singer.

First Image of THOR

The first image of Chris Hemsworth as Thor! helmet-less and Hammer-less (but im pretty sure anyone who stayed after the end credits of Iron Man 2 this weekend knows where it is)

The armor looks a little plastic-y if you ask me… but Hemsworth looks solid.
What do you think?

Summer Movie Preview

Top Summer Movies To See:

1 – Inception

INCEPTION

Very little is known about this movie and I would like to keep it that way. It is being described as “a contemporary sci—fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind.” That sounds pretty cool to me. Christopher Nolan (Memento, The Dark Knight) is one of my favorite film makers and this looks like it could be one if his best. It also has a solid cast to go along with it. This one takes the #1 spot in my movies to see this summer.

Release Date: JULY 16th

2 – Scott Pilgrim vs The World

SCOTT PILGRIM vs THE WORLD

Director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) latest film based on the graphic novels. After I watched the trailer, it made me really want to check out the books and im glad I did. They are fantastic. If the movie is anything like them this will be one of the funniest and original films you will see all summer.

3 – Iron Man 2

IRON MAN 2
As far as sequels go in the super hero movie world, they always seem to be better. Spider-man 2, X2, Blade 2, TDK… i could go on and on. So it would be safe to assume this could be better then the original. The first one was fantastic, but it didn’t  as much action as one might have hoped. This one seems to have more explosions and fight sequences in the trailer alone to out do the first one. Bring it on.

4 – Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time

PRINCE of PERSIA The Sands of Time
As far as video game movies go, pretty much every single one has sucked. All of them, just bad. Can Prince of Persia break the curse? Judging from the trailer… i think so. It has the same vibe as Pirates of the Caribbean (the Bruckheimer/Disney influence) which isn’t a bad this for this kind of film. This looks like a fun Action Adventure that could be one of the enjoyable escapes this summer.

5 – MacGruber

MacGRUBER
SNL movies can often be hit or miss. Classics like Waynes World were great but then you have forgettable flicks like Ladies Man. So how do you turn one of the shortest sketches in SNL history into a 90 minute feature? Not sure… But they have done it and the trailer looks hilarious. Fingers crossed this will join the ranks Night of the Roxbury on the funny scale.

6 – A-Team

A-TEAM
Remake of the popular TV show. This movie looks over the top and I like it. It looks to have balls to the walls action and doesn’t seem to take it self too seriously which is often a good sign. The defining factor will be the chemistry between the characters. If it doesn’t work the movie wont work.

7 – The Other Guys

THE OTHER GUYS
The Combo of Will Farrell and Adam McKay have made some of the funniest films in the last few years (Anchorman, Step Brothers, Talladega Nights, and the shorts “the Landlord” and “Green Team”). They are back together along with Marky Mark in this buddy cop film.

8 – Get Him to The Greek

GET HIM TO THE GREEK
This is the “sequel” or spin off to Forgetting Sara Marshall. Same Director/writer and Russell Brand plays the same character (although Jonah Hill does not). If its anything like FSM it should have a ton of laughs and be enjoyable from start to finish.

Release Date: JUNE 4th

9 – The Expendables

the EXPENDABLES
When i was a kid, I had an idea. To put every action star i could think of into one movie. Many years later, Sylvester Stallone had the exact same one. This is the result. Almost every Action Movie Legend is in here. Doesn’t matter if the plot sucks. Seeing all these guys together is enough to be worth seeing.

10 – Toy Story 3

TOY STORY 3
Pixar returns to the series that started it all. Buzz and Woody are back. It really doesn’t matter what the story is about, pixar knows how to make a good movie. Every single one they do has been a work of brilliance and this hopefully will be no exception.

Release Date: JUNE 18th

The Possible list:

The following movies have potential to be good. But as of right now, I’m on the fence.

1 – Predators

PREDATORS
It has been SO LONG since there has been a GOOD predator movie… like… since Arnold. But Robert Rodriguez (Desperado, Sin City) is behind this one. With a fresh and cool concept, this could be the sequel we’ve been waiting for.

Release Date: JULY 9th

2 – Knight and Day

KNIGHT and DAY
Might be a tad too silly, but it could also be the perfect amount. It could be a fun ride or a train-wreck. Too soon to tell.

Release Date: JULY 2nd

3 – Robin Hood

ROBIN HOOD
I don’t know why, but I am having some doubts about this film. You would think I could trust that this will be as good as Gladiator… but I am just slightly hesitant on it being as epic as i want it to be. Prove me wrong Ridley/Crowe.

Release Date: MAY 14th

4 – Despicable Me

DESPICABLE ME
Kids are going to love it. Guaranteed. I even found myself grinning at the cartoonish cutesy characters. But can it pull off the heart of a pixar film? not sure. we’ll see.

Danger Girl The Movie

Danger Girl movie

In the 90’s one of my favorite comic books was Danger Girl. Which felt like a mix of Charlies Angles, James Bond, and Indiana Jones… Now Danger Girl is getting its own film to be directed by Todd Lincoln. No casting news yet, or a release date. But this fanboy is pumped.

Nobody is Expendable

The Trailer for Sylvester Stallone’s new movie The Expendables came out today and i gotta say it packs a punch. Not only in the action category, but in the cast too.

Check out this line up of stars in the film:
Sylvester Stallone
Jason Statham
Jet Li
Dolph Lundgren
Steve Austin
Mickey Rourke
Eric Roberts
Terry Crews
Bruce Willis
Arnold Schwarzenegger

HECK YES! Thats right. The Govenator makes an appearance! With All these guys in one film together, its like an Action Movie overload. I cant wait to see it. Just too bad they couldn’t have fit in the likes of Seagal or Van Damme. That would have probably made my head explode.

Captain Human Torch?

Captain America has been cast.

Captain America is Chris Evans

The winner of this role is none other then Chris Evans. Who seems to LOVE his comic book movies, starring as the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four films, soon to be seen in Scott Pilgram vs The World, The Losers, and was also in the super power flick; Push.

Now I have always liked Evans in the movies he has done. But he always seems to come across as the same character over and over… the “Goofy Hero”. When it was announced that he was to play Cap, i wasn’t too pumped about it. This is going to be a real challenging role for him. Does he have the acting chops to do the character justice? and not only that, he will also have to be the Leader in the Avengers movie against the likes of Robert Downey Jr.

Good Luck Chris… I hope you can pull this off.
