Anberlin (Acoustic) – This was their first show they have done since December because they are working on their new album, and you could tell. Things felt rusty and slightly unorganized. Lyrics were forgotten many times and even a string busted on a guitar… and seeing as they had no guitar tech… they just kept going. Now normally this might sound like a half-assed show. But it was not. Being an acoustic show it allowed the band to do songs that they normally would have never done. Some of my favorites like The Haunting (which has never been preformed live) and Inevitable. They also played a brand new song never heard by anyone before called “Bittersweet Memory” . This is my 3rd time seeing Anberlin and this was a very unique concert going experience. I felt like i was watching something that only the select few would ever get the chance to see. For a die hard fan like myself. This was gold.
Mae – The Nectar Lounge would not be my first choice for a concert like this. there was a big sign above the door saying maximum capacity 360. And there must have been WAY more in the venue. Everything seemed pretty closed in and confined, but that made for an intimate atmosphere. This is my second time seeing Mae live and it looks as if they have perfected their stage performance. Adding constant head banging and little “moves” here and there. Also i didn’t realize until i saw them that a few of the members of the band are no longer with them. Mae seems like they are ready to take the next step and breakout a bit more. Sadly the set list was just ok. Nothing really blew me away. I could have used a few more songs from The Everglow album, but maybe i am biased cause its my favorite of theirs.
In the end it was worth the drive down to Seattle to catch two awesome bands together for this rare show.
